round table something or other ...

I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but I thought the questions by TAMBINPO were fairly interesting, so here goes nothing.

Why your school? Did you go to school there? Were you legacy, did you pick it for academics, for the football team, the party reputation?

I probably get asked this question more than anyone I know, since I am a Georgia fan but spent 6 years as a student at Georgia Tech. My answer is always the same. I've been a Georgia fan since I was 7 or 8 years old. I remember Dooley's last couple of seasons and guys like Tim Worley and Rodney Hampton. In the simplest terms, that's what was on in my house, my dad was a Georgia fan, so I was raised on it. A lot of people thought that going to Tech would change my mind on all that. On the contrary, 6 years at Tech only steeled my resolve and really taught me a deeper contempt for Georgia Tech sports. I've earned the utmost respect from my friends and a lot of Georgia people I've met in the last 6 years by sticking to my guns.

Name a player or two who had "THE GAME" against your school. I'm talking about a guy who simply dominated your team and all you could do was tip your cap and say, "Wow."

The easiest answer in the world to this is to play take your pick with almost anyone from Tennessee or Florida during the lean years of the mid 90's. Peyton had some good games against Georgia. I would actually bypass any UF players and just say that Spurrier simply dominated UGA throught the 90's, regardless of who was on the field. In the last 6 or 7 years though, most of the guys that would fall into this category have come from Auburn, and most of those performances helped them earn their place in the Gut Punch Hall of Fame.

You've got the Ben Leard and Ronney Daniels game, which every Auburn friend I have readily admitted there was no logical explanation for Ben Leard having a game like that against anyone, ever. That was a bad Auburn team playing on the road against a UGA team that was supposed to battle for the conference title, much like '98 and '00, hence the demise of Donnan. Anyway, Leard throws for like 400 yards with 250 of it going to Daniels. It was eye gougingly sickening. I mean, to compare it to this season in the SEC, it would have been Michael Spurlock coming out and throwing for 450 for Ole Miss against LSU, at night, in Death Valley. No way it hell it happens.

OMG, WTF?!?

Then there was the season of Rudi Johnson, where after we settled for a field goal in overtime, it was a foregone conclusion that Auburn was going to give him the ball 8 times in a row until he scored. The Kenny Irons game from this year also qualifies. I'd also give Justin Vincent a nod from the '03 Title Game, but I'll downgrade that now that we've got double redemption on that game.

It's been a pretty rare thing in the last 5 years for someone to just take over against UGA's defense, but we were definitely without an answer for Vincent and Irons on those days.

There are games that I have no interest in but I watch simply to see a certain guy play. What players from this season do you do the same for?

That's kind of a loaded question for me since I watch a crap ton of football no matter what. I've watched USC every chance I get to see Reggie Bush. I've watched ND every chance I get to see Tom Brady Quinn and Samardzija. Interestingly enough, I've almost avoided Texas games because I haven't wanted to see Vince Young. But honestly, I'll watch about any game that's going to be even semi-entertaining, and even some that aren't.

A few weeks ago we were asked who the best player to suit up for our school was. I'm curious who your favorite player to ever suit up for your school is? Certainly doesn't have to be a superstar, or even a starter.

In my formative years, guys like Rodney Hampton and then the trio of Zeier, Hearst, and Hastings got me hooked on Georgia football. I was a huge fan of watching Boss Bailey block field goals. Tony Gilbert's hair always gave me a strange confidence. David Greene always made me feel like we could win a game. And I've always had a strange affection for kickers, or at least kickers from the last few years once we got some that were worth a damn, Badass Billy Bennett, GEK, Coutu. But, without a doubt, my favorite Bulldog has been my guy, the recently departed and forever dangerous #10, Thomas Davis. A phenomenal athlete and the original head hunter. I never felt safer than I did with him and Sean John patrolling the secondary.

I had to use a picture of him blocking a kick since photos of him hitting people are considered too graphic for public consumption.

We have a buddy who went to both Georgia and Georgia Tech. I wasn't sure how or why that occurred. He is, however, a rabid Dawgs fan. And so ends my small talk...

Well since there's a decent chance I'll be at Georgia next fall, I'd finally fall under that category as well, of course, with the amount of time I spent there, I consider myself an honorary alumni anyway.

As for how or why, I guess every story is slightly different, but usually one fact, the one you named is pretty constant, they end up being Georgia fans. No fair in my case since I started one, but still.

In the meantime, was it just my imagination or did I watch the first 45 minutes of Skulls 2 on AMC this afternoon? I can only assume it ended up being sans benefit of the small amount of nudity they tried to pretty it up with. We are in some uncharted waters at this point.

Brace yourself, because today you're getting Young Guns 1 and 2 and Death Wish 1 and 2. Now why the hell they couldn't toss in Delta Force 2 to go with the original too is beyond me.
